Personal property public adjuster for denied or underpaid claims
Accurate Claims Consulting represents you, not the insurer, when furniture, electronics, clothing and other belongings are damaged or lost in a fire, a leak, a storm or a break-in. We build the contents inventory, research what each item costs to replace today and negotiate the contents settlement with your insurance company. You pay nothing up front: we only get paid when your insurance company pays the claim.

Who we help with personal property claims
Contents are often the largest and slowest part of a claim. We help:
- Homeowners whose furniture, electronics, clothing or appliances were ruined by fire, smoke, water or a storm, or taken in a burglary
- Landlords with furnishings and appliances they own in rental units
- Businesses with damaged stock, equipment and business property (see commercial claims and industrial claims)
The best time to call is before you accept a contents offer that seems lower than your loss.
What our clients say about the details
It is not fun to have to deal with these kinds of issues. I did not feel competent in the details that I knew I needed to provide my insurance company.

Insurer-side training, policyholder-side loyalty. Our public adjusters have worked for major insurance companies like Farmers, State Farm and Allstate, which gives them inside knowledge of what you are owed for your claim. Each has a Bachelor’s degree at minimum, and some are US military veterans. About Accurate Claims Consulting
How we handle a personal property claim

- Photograph before anything goes. We document every damaged item, including the ones that are obviously ruined, and the disposal pile before it is hauled away.
- List room by room, then by category. We walk each room and then sweep categories such as tools, linens and storage areas to catch what was missed.
- Research replacement cost. Each line gets a current price for a comparable item, with its source, and the proof of ownership you have.
- Test what can be cleaned. Smoke- or water-affected electronics, textiles and soft goods are evaluated item by item rather than by blanket assumption.
- Settle and collect the holdback. We negotiate the contents payment and the recoverable depreciation owed after replacement, on contingency.
What insurers dispute on personal property claims

Was the item documented before it was thrown out?
Once an item is gone, its condition becomes a matter of competing recollection. Photograph everything, and keep items that cannot be cleaned until the claim is resolved where you can.
Can it be cleaned instead of replaced?
Sometimes, but clothing, bedding, books, upholstery and electronics absorb smoke readily, and residue on circuit boards can cause a device to fail months later. Have affected electronics evaluated and keep the report; our article on smoke and soot damage explains why.
Was the offer made before the list was finished?
Accepting an offer before the inventory is complete, or pricing items at what you paid rather than at current cost, leaves money unclaimed. Take the time the policy allows and note its deadlines.
Was the depreciation holdback ever collected?
On a replacement cost policy, part of the payment is released only after you replace an item and send the receipts. Households that never submit them leave that amount unpaid. Our guide to building a personal property inventory walks through the process.

Licensing and where we work
Our adjusters hold California public adjuster licenses issued by the California Department of Insurance, which also helps consumers who have questions or complaints about a contents claim. For policies on Arizona property, contact the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions.

Personal property claim questions
What does a public adjuster do on a personal property claim?
We build and price your contents inventory, gather proof of ownership, check how your policy pays for contents and negotiate the settlement for you.
Do I pay anything before the claim settles?
No. We are paid only from the settlement, on a 100% contingency basis, and the first consultation is free.
How do I prove what I owned?
Use what already exists: everyday phone photos, email receipts, online order histories, card and bank statements and warranty registrations. You will not have proof for everything, and that is expected.
What is the difference between actual cash value and replacement cost?
Actual cash value pays replacement cost minus depreciation. Replacement cost coverage pays the depreciated amount first and releases the rest after you replace the item and document it.
Are some belongings capped?
They can be. Sublimits for categories such as jewelry, furs, firearms, cash and business property apply regardless of your overall contents limit, so check them before you finish the list.
How long does a contents inventory take?
After a total or near-total loss, building a complete list can take weeks. We do the inventory work, the pricing research and the negotiation with you.
How can I check your license?
Look up any California public adjuster with the California Department of Insurance license check, and ask for the license number before you sign.
Where do you handle contents claims?
Our office is in Studio City, and our clients are in California, Arizona, Connecticut and Georgia.
